Pre-Nursing Instructional Lab Bob Sheath

(760) 750-8023

CSU San Marcos prides itself in providing innovative state-of-the-art instructional laboratories in the sciences. With over 400 pre-nursing students on campus, there is considerable pressure on existing instructional lab facilities for teaching BIOL 175 (Anatomy & Physiology I), BIOL 176 (Anatomy & Physiology II), and BIOL 160 (Microbiology) New Construction via a build-out of unfinished space in Science Hall II Due to limited funding for equipment from State Funds, the needs are:
Qty. Item Cost (ea.)
14 Nikon E200 Microscopes $800
14 Dell Laptop Computers $800
14 AD Instruments Power Labs $5,000
1 Ceiling-mounted remote-controlled video camera $2,000
1 Mortech Dissection Tables $2,294
1 Wards Hematocrit centrifuge $999
1 Wards Triple water bath $795
2 Berchtold Surgical Lamp $800
2 Mortech Instrument Tray/Holder $323
26 AG Heinze compound microscopes

Many human diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and even type 1 diabetes, stem from structural defects in molecules such as proteins and DNA. By understanding the structures of these molecules better and the interactions that affect them, it is hoped that drugs and perhaps even cures could be found. The two instruments listed below are extremely important for these researchers and will provide unique opportunities for undergraduate students to become involved in cutting edge research. New construction via a build-out of unfinished space in Science Hall II Due to limited funding for research equipment from State funds, the needs are:
Qty. Item Cost (ea.)
1 Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) spectrometer $125,000
1 Circular Dichroism (CD) spectrometer $80,000
1 HFU 486 basic cryofreezer -70 degrees
1 VWR 97000-866 class II biosafety cabinet
1 Nanopure water purification system
Applied Hydrodynamics and Plasma Physics Lab Michael Burin

(760) 750-8575

This research centers on a study of turbbulences in plasmas and rotating fluids with applications to the understanding of geophysical flows and aerodynamics. The work also has applications in the study of the dynamics of planetary atmospheres. Students are already engaged in Dr. Burin's laboratory helping set up and calibrate equipment for the plasma experiment. Recently completed research laboratory space in Science Hall II Due to limited funding for research equipment in the College of Arts and Sciences, the needs are:
Qty. Item Cost (ea.)
Set of 6 Object: Miniature hydrophones $24,000
Digital Date Acquisition System (lab viewTM based) $25,000
50 kg Bulk liquid metal (a Gallium-Indium-Tin alloy $32,000
  1D Laser Dopler Velocimeter $40,000
  Ultrasonic Velocimeter $43,000
Fast imaging digital camera (10,000 frames per second) $71,000
  2D Laser Doppler Velocimeter $125,00
