Overcoming Academic Probation:
Strategies for Academic Success
Your past
academic performance has placed you on Academic Probation, which puts you at
risk for Academic Disqualification. Your advisors are concerned about your
academic progress and would like to be an integral part of your support
system here at Cal State San Marcos. It is important that you
communicate with an academic advisor to assist you in developing
problem-solving strategies to address issues that are affecting your
educational goals.
We hope that meeting with your advisor can help you get
back on track. Some topics of discussion can include:
-
Understanding what academic probation status means.
-
Understanding the causes of academic probation.
-
Developing a plan to get you off of academic probation status.
-
Identifying resources that can ensure your academic success.
We realize that various factors may have played a role in placing you on
academic probation, such as taking too many units, balancing homework with home
life, stress at work, relationship issues or dealing with the system.
We also want you to acknowledge that ultimately it is your responsibility to
maintain satisfactory progress each semester and hope you will take the
initiative to seek assistance.
To that end, we have prepared an Academic Success Checklist to provide
you with resources that will help you fulfill your academic goals.
Complete those items which you think are most helpful to you. We strongly
recommend that you meet with your academic advisor after reviewing this
checklist.
