Women's Studies encompasses areas related to women's history, culture, and experience. Majors in Women's Studies develop analytic skills to consider a variety of theories and perspectives. By understanding the historic and contemporary forces that determine status, students can assess the social forces that influence them. In addition, Women's Studies courses offer information preparing students for life issues, such as balancing personal and professional lives, work and family issues, and career development. An overview of the status of women in various fields and institutional settings helps Women's Studies students more accurately evaluate choices available to them.

Women's Studies students can specialize in women's roles in business and industry, such as advertising, marketing research, human resources, or personnel management. Others may choose to work in the area of the law, public policy, and legislative affairs pertaining to women and gender. Students can also specialize in services such as social work, career counseling, feminist therapy, positions in battered women's shelters and rape crisis centers, family planning organizations, and women's health programs. Finally, there are a growing number of academic placements available in secondary education, colleges and universities.
