MPP and Confidential Employees
Confidential (C99) and MPP (M80) employees receive annual performance evaluations. All confidential and most MPP employees are evaluated on an annual cycle which runs from July 1 of one year through June 30 of the following year (e.g. 7/1/07 - 6/30/08) The annual evaluation cycle for Vice Presidents and Deans is September 1 through August 31.

Represented Employees Annual Evaluations
Represented employees are evaluated on an annual cycle which runs from April 1 of one year through March 31 of the following year (e.g., 4/1/07 - 3/31/08). This includes employees in the following units:
Physicians - Unit 1
California State University Employees’ Union (CSUEU) - Units 2, 5, 7 & 9
Academic Professionals of California (APC) Unit 4
State Employees Trades Council (SETC) Unit 6
Statewide University Police Association (SUPA) Unit 8
Long-Term Temporary Employees (more than 180 days)

Probationary Evaluation Schedules

Due Dates: Probationary Performance Evaluations are due to HREO two weeks prior to each due date.

Physicians - Unit 1: Two-year probation is required. Two evaluations are due by the end of the 6th and 18th month.

California State Employees’ Union (CSUEU) – Units 2, 5, 7 & 9: One-year probation is required (except when less than full-time base, then it is pro-rated according to the time base, up to a two year probation). Three evaluations are due by the end of the 3rd, 6th and 11th month. Note: A draft of the performance evaluation must be provided to the employee to provide input for consideration prior to the final evaluation being completed. The employee then has 5 days to submit his/her input prior to the final evaluation being completed.

Academic Professionals of California (APC) Unit 4: One-year probation is normally required. Two evaluations are due by the end of 6th, 11th month. In the case of an internal promotional advancement or when probation is shortened to one year, two evaluations are due on the 3rd and 9th month. Note: A draft of the performance evaluation must be provided to the employee to provide input for consideration. The employee then has 14 days to submit a rebuttal prior to the final evaluation being completed.

State Employees Trade Council (SETC) Unit 6: One-year probation (12 months of continuous full-time credited service) is required. Two evaluations are due by the end of 3rd and 9th month.

Statewide University Police Association (SUPA) Unit 8: One-year probation (12 months of continuous full-time credited service) is required. Two evaluations are due by the end of 3rd and 9th month.

Transition to Permanent Status: When a probationary employee gains permanent status, his/her first annual evaluation period begins from the date of his/her final probationary evaluation through March 31, regardless of the length of time. Subsequent evaluations will be on the annual schedule.

Reclassification: Probationary periods due to reclassification will follow the regular schedule unless otherwise indicated on the Personnel Action Notice (PAN).
