University Budget Committee ~ Budget Open Forum

The University Budget Committee (UBC) serves as an advisory body to the President and the President’s Executive Council, and the membership is comprised of representatives of various campus constituencies (divisions, students, staff and faculty – membership roster available at link on the right).  UBC is charged with helping to communicate information about the budget and making recommendations to President Haynes regarding the FY 2010/11 operating budget. In order to fulfill these responsibilities, UBC hosted a budget forum during University Hour on Thursday, February 25, 2010, at The Clarke Field House/University Student Union. The budgetary background presentations made by each division are available at the links on the right.

Last fall each division was asked to prepare a prioritized proposal for the FY 2010/11 operating budget that included a 10% reduction in permanent funds and a 5% reduction in fiscal (one-time) funds. The UBC will meet all day on Friday, March 12th, to review the division proposals and to develop a prioritized recommendation to submit to President Haynes and the President’s Executive Council. The guiding principles for the University’s FY 2010/11 budget development process remain unchanged from those articulated by President Haynes in the budget forums she has hosted over the last 18 months or so; namely:

  • We will continue to serve as many students as we can within our budget and without sacrificing quality.
  • We will work to protect as many jobs as possible.
  • We will balance the need to address the budget crisis with the commitment to continue building for our future.

Members of the campus community are invited to submit feedback for UBC members to consider as they deliberate and prepare a recommendation to submit to President Haynes regarding the FY 2010/11 operating budget. In order to be considered, comments should be submitted by close of business on Wednesday, March 10, 2010.
