Mission:
The focus of our group is to promote awareness of our culture. We
have a strong emphasis towards supporting the success of our African
American students on campus as they navigate through the CSUSM
experience. Please be sure to contact one of the current AAFSA
officers if you wish to find out more about our association.
Message from the President:
As the incoming AAFSA president,
I look forward to continuing the efforts outlined in the forming of
this organization: to bridge the gap between faculty and staff, to
develop a system of advocacy for employees of African descent, and
to bring African/African American cultural activities to Cal State
University San Marcos. We are a dedicated group of university
professionals that support the mission of this institution and
promote excellence among students, faculty, and staff. Currently,
the African American Faculty and Staff Association has been
sponsoring activities such as:
Student
scholarships
Black History
Month Celebration
Soul Food
Luncheon Program
Annual New
Student Welcome Program
Annual African
American Graduation Recognition Ceremony
Mentoring
Program
While we will continue these traditions, this
year AAFSA will also be committed to:
Addressing issues related to the
recruitment and retention of African-American faculty and staff.
Addressing issues of retention and
graduation of African-American students.
Actively serving as mentors and role
models for students.
Promoting unity and community among our
members.
Affiliate with other African-American
community organizations
The African American Faculty and Staff
Association take pride in its talented membership and works
diligently for the betterment of African American faculty, staff and
students at Cal State University San Marcos.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you
have any questions or how you may be involved. We welcome all
comments and suggestions.
