Message from the President
Greetings and welcome to the African American Faculty and Staff Association (AAFSA) website. My name is Sandra Young and I am excited to serve as AAFSA President for the 2011/12 academic year.
Grounded in tradition with a commitment to the ongoing academic success of future generations, AAFSA seeks to anticipate the unique needs of African-American students and deliver outstanding services to help them reach their goals.
Our organization provides camaraderie through our many programs and initiatives. In addition to our monthly meetings, we also host a number of special events throughout the year such as the African-American First Year Student Welcome Program; the Soul Food Luncheon, which raises money for student assistance and recognition; the Bi- Annual Leadership Development Conference; California State University’s Super Sunday; and an annual recognition ceremony for graduating African-American students. We are also proud of our successful mentoring program which provides an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to connect in positive one-on-one relationships.
Dedicated to supporting CSUSM’s five strategic priorities, AAFSA particularly focuses on helping to create a campus environment committed to Academic Excellence, Student Life, Diversity and Educational Equity. Our friendly spirit also contributes to enriching Campus Climate and Community Partnerships, which uplifts the positive spirit of the campus community while also celebrating students and the moments which make life a gift.
If you are a student, friend or visitor at Cal State San Marcos, AAFSA invites you to join us at any of our conferences or celebrations throughout the year.
