Scholarships for Incoming Freshmen

These scholarships apply to high school seniors who have been accepted into Cal State San Marcos. Note that application deadlines occur within the senior year of high school.

The Gates Millennium Scholars Program selects 1,000 students each year to receive a good-through-graduation scholarship to use for college. Scholarships include: UNCF (United Negro College Fund), HSF (Hispanic Scholarship Fund), AIGCS (American Indian Graduate Center for Scholars), and APIASF (Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund).

The United Friends of the Children is a non-profit organization that offers College Readiness programs that prep High School foster youth for graduation from high school. Through their College Sponsorship, they offer financial support for foster youth attending CSUs. Applicants must have a minimum 2.8 GPA and have plans to attend college in the fall.

Common Scholarship Application uses one online form to access more than 100 scholarships available for graduating high school seniors, undergraduates, graduate students and adult re-entry students who are attending 2-year colleges, 4-year universities, trade/vocational schools, graduate, medical and professional schools and teaching credential programs. Scholarships range from $500 to more than $5,000 and can pay for tuition, room and board, books, fees and other related expenses. Note that almost all of our scholarships require San Diego County residency.

The Jackie Robinson Foundation provides scholarships to high school students who show a need to attend college.

Students That Hit the Books and Help Their Communities awards over a 1,000 students scholarships each year to those who plan to attend college, have work experience, show academic achievements, and are involved in community service.

The program provides former foster youth in San Diego County with a partial financial scholarship of $5000 along with mentoring support to assist them in adapting to and excelling in a higher education setting. Guardian Scholars Students must be highly motivated foster youth or former foster youth who plan to enroll in college. Applicants are required to maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA, minimum of 12 semester units of coursework, obtain a part-time job (minimum of 10 hours a week), and file their FAFSA.

California State University San Marcos offers a number of scholarships. The general scholarship application serves as one application for the various scholarships such as Fall Scholarships, Spring Scholarships, additional scholarships, and CSU scholarships. The General Scholarship application is used to pre-screen and select the recipients for all scholarships offered at Cal State San Marcos.

Change a Life Foundation has a scholarship program for graduating high school seniors in San Diego, Orange, and Los Angeles counties as well as emancipated youth throughout California. Applicants must have a weighted GPA of 3.5 or higher from 9th grade to the first semester of their senior year (12th grade), minimum SAT score of 1,500, be enrolled in and/or passed Advanced Placement courses (AP courses), and completed a minimum of 40 hours of Community Service. Rewarding College Dreams Scholarship-Cal-Soap works with the CSU system to prep High School students for college. Rewarding College Dreams Scholarships are given to high school seniors attending one of the high schools listed on Cal-Soap and must be in a college preparation partner program (AVID, GEAR UP, EAOP, Upward Bound, ETS, etc.) Through many programs, Cal-Soap also offers ACT/SAT prep classes.

Friends of Foster Children offers financial assistance in the form of scholarships to foster youth or emancipated foster youth from the Los Angeles County.

The NFPA Youth Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to current foster children and biological or adopted children of an NFPA member. Applicants must be a senior in high school or have received their GED within the last six months, and must have a parent/guardian that is an NFPA member.

All Foster Care to Success scholarships applicants must have been accepted into or expect to be accepted into college, and be under the age of 25 on March 31. Applicants also must have been in public or private foster care for the 12 consecutive months prior to their 18th birthday; or have been adopted or placed into legal guardianship from foster care after their 16th birthday; or they must have been orphaned for at least one year at the time of their 18th birthday.

JIT offers resources such as laptops, school supplies, and even dorm furnishing shopping sprees with a potential lifelong mentor and successful JIT Alumni. To apply you must be enrolled in a four-year college program as well as submit a written essay and a letter of recommendation along with your application.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Program is for seniors in high school that plan to attend college who carry a minimum 3.00 GPA at the end of their junior year.

The Horatio Alger Association offers several different state scholarships for full time high school seniors who plan to enter college no later than the fall following graduation. Applicants must have a minimum 2.0 GPA, be involved in co-curricular and community activities, and United States Citizenship.
