 Scholarships for Transfer Students

These scholarships apply to transfer students from a community college pursuing a degree at Cal State San Marcos.

The College Sponsorship Program offers students $3,000 a year for up to three years for college-related expenses. Applicants must have a cumulative 2.8 GPA or above, be under the age of 23, attend an overnight orientation on June 22-23, and be on track to attend a four year college on a full-time basis.

The San Diego Foundation offers a Common Scholarship Application that uses one online form to access more than 100 scholarships available for re-entry students who are attending 2-year colleges. Scholarships range from $500 to more than $5,000 and can pay for tuition, room and board, books, fees and other related expenses. Note that almost all of our scholarships require a San Diego County residency,

Gaurdian Scholars Program provides former foster youth in San Diego County with a partial financial scholarship of $5,000 along with mentoring support to assist them in adapting to and excelling in a high education setting. Gaurdian Scholars Students must be highly motivated foster youth or former foster youth who plan to enroll in college. Applicants are required to maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA, minimum of 12 semester units of coursework, obtain a part-time job (minimum of 10 hours a week), and file their FAFSA.

Cal State San Marcos offers Fall and Spring Scholarships that each has very specific eligibility requirements. For the General Scholarship application, Cal State San Marcos Scholarship applicants must be enrolled at Cal State San Marcos in at least 6 units, and admitted to and enrolled in a program of student leading to a degree or certificate program.

The Textbook Scholarship is awarded to transitional-age foster youth who would like assistance with the cost of college text books. Applicants must be attending a San Diego County two-year college, provide transcripts showing at least three previous semesters of grades, complete two essay questions included in the application, and provide up to two references.

Friends of Foster Children offers scholarships to those that can verify their status as a foster youth/court dependent from Los Angeles County. Applicants must have a definite and verifiable educational plan for college, and can document financial need.

All Foster Care to Success scholarship applicants must have been accepted into or expect to be accepted into a four year college, and be under the age of 25 on March 31. Applicants also must have been in public or private foster care for the 12 consecutive months prior to their 18th birthday; or have been adopted or placed in legal guardianship from foster care after their 16th birthday; or they must have been orphaned for at least one year at the time of their 18th birthday.

Just In Time (JIT) offers resources such as laptops, school supplies, and even dorm furnishing shopping sprees with a potential lifelong mentor and successful JIT Alumni. To apply you must be enrolled in a four-year college program as well as submit a written essay and a letter of recommendation along with your application.

Applications are acceped February-May 2013

The Future Care Scholarship is awarded to students pursuing an education in healthcare. The application requires two 500 word essays and a resume. On the website you will find the application as well as helpful video tutorials about the scholarship and application process.

Fostering Opportunities Dollars for Scholars works with Scholarship America to offer scholarships to foster youth who wish to obtain a higher education. Applicants must have proof of prior court dependency in San Diego County, enrollment in school, and a letter of recommendation from a supportive adult.
