What is a Residency Status?

Under California's uniform law, each CSU campus must determine the residency status of all new and returning students. Non-California residents are required to pay nonresident tuition and meet other conditions.



RESIDENCY DETERMINATION

What is a Residency Determination?

Generally, to be eligible for the California resident classification, an adult applicant must have established and maintained permanent residence in California at least one year prior to the residency determination date (listed below).

Residence of applicants under the age of 19 on the residency determination date is based on the residency status of their parents.

AB540 allows undocumented students to pay in-state tuition at California Community Colleges and California State Universities if:


What are the Residency Determination Dates?

CSU San Marcos is on a Semester Calendar. The residency determination dates are:

      Fall 2006:   September 20, 2005
      Spring 2007:   April 1, 2006
      Summer 2007:   July 1, 2006
      Fall 2007:   September 20, 2006
      Spring 2008:   April 1,, 2007
      Summer 2008:   July 1, 2007

RESIDENCY DETERMINATION APPEALS

My Residence Determination is Incorrect...

If you believe your residence determination is incorrect, you may appeal by calling the Office of Admissions at (760) 750-4848. Ask to speak with or leave a message for the Residency Clerk; or you may email the Residency Clerk at adavis@csusm.edu.

Following a final decision by the residency clerk, students have up to 120 days to file a written appeal to the Office of the General Counsel at:
