A Week in the Life of Jackie Espinoza
Monday:
8 a.m. Woke up and went to yoga class in CSUSM’s Fieldhouse, where I learned some balancing poses and got to stretch out all the tight, stressed-out muscles.
10 a.m. Went to Ancient Greek History class where we discussed Sparta’s militaristic society.
2:30 p.m. Went to my advising appointment to make sure I know what classes to take next semester. I want to make sure I graduate on time!
5:15 p.m. Went home and read about the effects of the Opium Wars on Chinese history for my Chinese History and Film Class.
9 p.m. Went to bed and dreamed about being a teacher someday.
Tuesday:
7:30 a.m. Woke up and went to work for Rancho Minerva Middle School where I am an AVID tutor. I help groups of 10 kids at a time learn algebra, life science, and I proof their essays.
Noon. University Hour! This is a brief break time where nobody has any classes scheduled and we have events and free food right here on campus. Sweet!
2:15 p.m. Went to work for Upward Bound, an outreach program for high school students who want to go to college. It’s an outreach program run by CSUSM ’s Office of Admissions and Recruitment.
Wednesday:
4 p.m. Wrote 14 pages during the essay exam in Middle Eastern Politics. Whew!
7 p.m. Played Capture the Flag with the Orientation Team and use all of the campus as a playing field. We come decked out in red or blue clothes.
Thursday:
Noon. University Hour! Went to a seminar about the Roman influence on the Mediterranean during the time of the Roman Empire in order to get extra credit in my Ancient Civilizations and Film Class.
8:45 p.m. Went to Tony Roma’s on Restaurant Row on San Marcos Boulevard. I usually can’t afford Tony Roma’s, but my dad dropped off a gift card at my house this afternoon. Sweet!
10:45 p.m. Came home full, happy, and go to sleep.
Friday:
9 a.m. Woke up and went to my U.S. History in Film class. We watched Charlie Chaplin films and discussed why they were so popular. I find this subject particularly interesting because my great-grandma had a crush on Charlie Chaplin! I found out that I got the highest grade on the exam.
Noon. Got lunch and coffee at Starbucks (right here on campus) with friends.
3 p.m. Went to the Global Affairs office and finished paying off my trip. I’m going to study abroad in Spain this summer! I earned every penny of this trip, and I’m going to make the most of it!
4 p.m. Returned home and wrote my paper for U.S. History in Film class. My thesis is that while the early films up to the late 1920s challenged Victorian values, they also made sure women always conformed in the end through true love.
9 p.m. Went to San Diego’s On Broadway club and danced the night away. I don’t drink, so I’m the official designated driver. Safety ALWAYS comes first.
Saturday:
Noon. Woke up late and went to Carlsbad Beach where I ran with my dog, Maddie, along the Sea Walk and just enjoyed the ocean breezes and stunning scenery.
1:30 p.m. Maddie and I needed water, so we stopped by our favorite ice cream shop on Carlsbad Village Drive. I ordered chocolate frozen yogurt. Yum!
