AIS 400: CONTEMPORARY AMERICAN INDIAN HEALTH AND WELLNESS

Studies American Indian/Alaskan Native (AIAN) health and wellness from a contemporary public and community health/epidemiologic perspective.  Examines current AIAN health status, health behaviors, maintenance of a healthy environment, and theories of health behavior change. Emphasizes tribal sovereignty and connectedness related to personal/community health and health care access from historical and contemporary perspectives. Introduces ethical standards for tribally appropriate health related research and legacy of associated historic issues. Local AIAN leaders prominent in healthcare guest lecture. Includes field trips to tribally owned/operated full-service community health clinics.
