The ALCI is part of the California State University San Marcos campus, a modern, growing university with the latest computer technology, high tech labs, athletic facilities, and state-of-the-art library facilities. The University Student Union recently opened and is the campus hub of student activity. CSU San Marcos is a university dedicated to the academic success of global citizens and has been rated as the safest campus in the California University system.

San Marcos is a small, friendly and safe community in beautiful north San Diego County. San Marcos is about 37 miles (60 km) north of downtown San Diego and 100 miles (160 km) south of downtown Los Angeles. The campus is close to Southern California beaches, mountains, and deserts, where you can swim, surf, hike, bicycle, golf, and ski. The San Diego Zoo, Downtown San Diego, and Sea World are about a 40-minute drive from San Marcos; Disneyland is a one-hour drive; and Hollywood is a 120-minute drive.
The San Diego region has one of the best climates in the United States. Average temperatures range from a low of 57F (14C) in January to a high of 75F (24C) in June. The humidity is very low, and the average yearly rainfall is less than 9.8 inches (25 cm).
