Mission

The Physics Program provides high quality education in physics for a diverse group of students in a rapidly changing world. We provide a supportive teaching and learning environment that promotes understanding of physics and develops scientific literacy. We help students develop critical thinking skills, problem-solving skills, and proficiency in the oral and written communication of physics. to this end, we emphasize the practicle application of physics in solving problems related to all areas of technology.

In addition, the Physics Program is committed to fostering mutually beneficial partnerships with the local K-12 education community. we work to promote the teaching and learning of physics in K-12 classrooms by participating in the training of future current teachers.

Our faculty pursues excellence through innovation in teaching and learning, while at the same time committing themselves to scholarly activities in physics and physics education research. This creates an intellectually stimulating environment in which our students learn physics and the process of doing scientific work. Through its educatioinal and scholarly endeavors, the department contributes to the development of an informed citzenry, the economic wellbeing of San Diego County, and the fullfillment of students' career aspirations.
