June 15 -- CSUSM Announces Search for New Softball Coach
After two very successful seasons, Kelly Warren has stepped down as head coach of the Cal State San Marcos softball team.  CSUSM has officially begun the search for a replacement.

June 6 -- Tom Seitz Named New Athletic Director at CSUSM

Tom Seitz has been named Athletic Director at California State University San Marcos (CSUSM).  President Karen S. Haynes made the announcement Thursday morning.

June 22 -- Fall Schedules Posted

The schedules for CSUSM women's cross-country, men's cross-country, women's soccer, and men's soccer are now posted online!  You can view them on the individual sports' pages by clicking the "CSUSM Sports" link on the left bar.

The Cougar Report podcast is back with (now former) softball coach Kelly Warren talking about her decision to become a full-time mom, the 2009 softball season, and her thoughts on the team's future.

Cougar Men's Soccer and Mexico's Soccer Superstars during the national anthem at May 30th's soccer festival at San Marcos High School. Thousands of fans packed the seats to cheer on the squads as they played a very competitive exhibition game.

May 28 -- Four Cougars Named to Softball All-Conference Team!

Congratulations to outfielder Alyssa Dronenburg, first baseman Lauren Nelson, and pitchers Brenna Sandberg and Melissa Lerno for being named to the 2009 A.I.I. All-Conference Team!

May 19 -- DeVilla and Mejia Named Honorable Mention All-Americans!

Congratulations to Linnel DeVilla and Roxanne Mejia for being named Honorable Mention All-Americans!  The sophomore duo led the CSUSM women's golf team all season, culminating in the 10th-place finish at last week's Nationals.

May 15 - Women's Golf Earns 10th Straight Top-10 Finish at Nationals

Cougar women's golf finished up its season on Friday, taking 10th place at the NAIA National Championships.  Sophomores Roxanne Mejia and Linnel de Villa led the way, finishing tied for 21st and 26th, respectively.

May 11 -- CSUSM Track & Field Qualifier List

Cal State San Marcos track & field is set to compete in the National Championships, which will take place on May 21-23 at Ralph Korte Stadium in Edwardsville, Illinois.  Below is the list of Cougar athletes who have qualified and the events they will be competing in.

May 10 -- Cougar Track & Field Finishes Up Regular Season Competition at Occidental

Track & Field competed in its final meet of the season on Saturday, taking part in the huge Occidental Invitational.  The squad will be headed to Nationals on May 21st.

May 7 -- Cougar Men’s Soccer Team to Headline “Soccer Party” in San Marcos

Soccer season is starting early in San Marcos!

Cal State San Marcos’ men’s soccer team is set to play an exhibition match against “Mexico’s Soccer Superstars” – a team featuring world-class players, many with World Cup experience.

The event, which is being put on by Golazo Sports Promotions, will take place on May 30th at San Marcos High.  Festivities will start at 3:00 PM, and will include food, games, booths, demonstrations and a festival atmosphere.

May 6 -- Baseball:  Four Cougars Named to All-Conference Team

Four Cougar baseball players have been named to the Cascade Conference and regional grouping All-Conference team.  Catcher Scott Clement, designated hitter Dane Ponciano, third baseman Austin Coleman, and outfielder James Scott were all recognized for their outstanding seasons on Wednesday.  Congratulations to them!

After a tremendous run to the title game, CSUSM baseball was eliminated from the NAIA West Tournament in heartbreaking fashion on Wednesday, losing a pair of games to British Columbia.  The Cougars got solid efforts from starters Johnny Holtman and Chris Skaalen, but British Columbia's pitching staff proved too much, allowing CSUSM's powerful offense just one run in 18 innings.  CSUSM finishes the year with a 27-16 record.

May 5 -- Baseball Wins Again!!

Cougar baseball will play in the championship game of the NAIA West Tournament tomorrow, thanks to their second thrilling victory in as many days.  CSUSM defeated Oregon Tech 7-6 on Tuesday, thanks in large part to Josh Miller's 4 RBI.  The Cougars will take on British Columbia tomorrow.

May 5 -- Cougar Softball Finishes Season Ranked #20

Cougar softball's season officially came to an end Tuesday, as the squad was not selected for an at-large bid to the 2009 National Championships.  CSUSM finished its stellar season ranked #20 in the nation, with wins over teams that finished ranked #1, #4, #10, and #14 (4 times).  Congratulations to the outstanding players and coaches on a great season!

May 4 -- Baseball Update:  Cougars Win Opener!

Third-seeded Cougar baseball opened the 2009 NAIA West Region Tournament with a thrilling 9-8 win over second-seeded College of Idaho on Monday!  CSUSM scored a run in the ninth to tie it up, and won it in the eleventh.

May 3 -- Softball Finishes Runner-Up at A.I.I. Tournament!

Congratulations to Cougar softball for finishing as the runner-up at the first-ever A.I.I. Tournament!  CSUSM took down #1 seed Simon Fraser 5-4 on Saturday, earning a spot in the championship game and a rematch against University of Houston-Victoria.  While the Cougars would fall 9-4 in that game, it was still a great showing for Coach Kelly Warren and her team!

CSUSM is in the running for an at-large bid to the National Championships - information on that will be posted here when it is available.

May 2 -- Men's 4x800-Meter Relay Team Earns Bid to Nationals

Cougar track & field will be sending four more athletes to this month's National Championships, thanks to the performance of the men's 4x800-meter relay team today.  Competing at the Steve Scott Invitational - named after our coach and hosted at U.C. Irvine - the Cougar team ran 7:43.29 to meet the "A" qualifying standard for Nationals!

May 1 -- Softball Stays Alive with Pair of Wins at A.I.I. Tournament

Cougar softball picked up a pair of wins at the A.I.I. Tournament today.  CSUSM defeated LSU-Alexandria in the morning, and downed Lambuth 4-0 in the afternoon.  They'll continue play tomorrow against top-seeded Simon-Fraser for the right to play Houston-Victoria in the championship.

May 1 -- Women's Golf Officially Qualifies for Nationals

Coach Fred Hanover's women's golf team has officially earned an at-large bid to the 2009 Women's Golf National Championship!  The Cougars, ranked #10 nationally in the season's final pool, will head to Meadowbrook Golf Course in Western South Dakota to compete at the event from May 12-15.

April 30 -- UPDATE:  Softball Wins Game One at A.I.I. Tournament!

Cougar softball picked up its first-ever post-season win today, defeating Lambuth (TN) 4-2 in their first game at the A.I.I. Conference Tournament.  CSUSM will play again tonight.  This site will be updated as more information comes in.

UPDATE 8:00 PM:  Softball loses game two 2-1 to University of Houston - Victoria.  CSUSM will play tomorrow against Louisiana State University - Alexandria at 2:00 PM local time to stay alive.

April 28 -- British Columbia Wins A.I.I. Men’s Golf Championship; CSUSM Finishes 4th

British Columbia has won the first-ever Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Men's Golf Championship, finishing ten shots ahead of the University of Victoria to take home the title.

April 27 -- Baseball:  Azusa Pacific Gets Revenge

Cougar baseball suffered a tough loss in its final game of the regular season on Monday, as Azusa Pacific got revenge for a loss earlier this month, defeating CSUSM 21-6.

Hosting the first-ever Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Championship on Monday, Cal State San Marcos sits in sixth place at the end of play on day one.

Cougar track & field entered the home stretch of its season on Saturday, competing at the UCSD Triton Invitational.  Only UC Irvine and Occidental remain on the schedule before Nationals.

In their final tune-up before heading to Georgia for the A.I.I. playoffs, Cougar softball looked in top form on Saturday, defeating Hope International 9-0 and 4-1.

Scott Clement's 14 RBI's led Cal State San Marcos to a double-header sweep of La Sierra.  CSUSM took game one 25-11, and went on to win game two 31-5.

Cougar baseball was on the road Wednesday, earning a split with Vanguard University.  The Cougars took game one 7-4 before dropping game two 3-1.

April 18 -- Bush, Sandberg Lead Softball to Win Over #2 Point Loma!

#25-ranked Cal State San Marcos softball picked up a huge home win on Saturday, defeating #2 Point Loma  2-1 in extra innings in the front end of a double-header.  Point Loma would take game two 4-2.

April 17 -- Baseball Serving Lunch to Softball:  Pictures

Prior to the season, Cougar Baseball Head Coach Dennis Pugh and Softball Head Coach Kelly Warren held a friendly contest to see who could raise more money in their annual Phone-A-Thons.  The losing team would have to serve lunch to the winning team.  Softball won.

Congratulations to Cougar athlete Scott Jeffers for finishing 21st in the California Invitational Decathlon, hosted by Azusa Pacific on Wednesday and Thursday.  Full results are available on APU's website.

April 14 -- Cougar Baseball Upsets #14 Azusa Pacific!

Cal State San Marcos baseball battled against one of the best lineups in the NAIA and battled through 6 errors to pick up its biggest win of the season on Tuesday, defeating #14 Azusa Pacific 8-7 at Poway High School.

Facing the team currently ranked #15 in NCAA Division III, Cal State San Marcos baseball earned a hard-fought split with Chapman University on Saturday.  Chapman won game one 11-7, but the Cougars took game two 10-8.

Coach Steve Scott’s track & field team competed at the UCLA Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational this weekend, and CSUSM posted a great showing against some of the best collegiate athletes in the nation.

Today's baseball game at Poway High vs. Chapman has been rained out.  The game will be made up as part of a double-header tomorrow at Chapman starting at noon.

April 9 -- Tony Guadagnini Sets New School Record

Congratulations to Tony Guadagnini for breaking the school record in the 1,500-meter run at the Cal/Nevada Invitational!  He ran 3:48.44 - the fastest time in the NAIA this season - and finished in third place.  Guadagnini will compete for the Cougars in May's National Championships.

April 7 -- Softball Drops Pair of Games to Biola

Cougar softball's four-game road win streak over GSAC teams came to a halt on Tuesday, as the squad dropped a pair of games at Biola, losing 1-0 and 6-1.

Hosting the #18-ranked team in the NAIA, Cougar baseball battled to a split with Master's College at Escondido High on Tuesday, winning game one 6-5 before losing game two 14-9.

April 6 -- Cal State San Marcos Hosts Mangrum Invitational

Over 400 athletes and just about that many spectators were on the Mangrum Track & Soccer Field this Saturday as Cal State San Marcos hosted its first ever track & field event, the Mangrum Invitational.

April 4 -- Softball Sweeps Azusa, Pushes Win Streak to Four

Heading into the home stretch of the season, Cougar softball appears to be getting hot at just the right time.  They tallied a pair of wins over #21 Azusa Pacific on Saturday, winning game one 2-1 in extra innings and game two 5-0.

CSUSM is now 26-16 on the season and has collected four straight wins over ranked teams.

Competing in a field of NCAA schools on a very difficult course, the #9-ranked Cal State San Marcos women's golf team placed a very solid 12th at the Anteater Invitational, hosted by UC Irvine at Santa Ana Country Club.
