Ron Pulvers, Head Coach
As the architect of men’s and
women’s soccer at Cal State San Marcos, Ron Pulvers has turned both
into competitive programs in the span of just two seasons. Given
Pulvers’ track record, this early success has surprised no one.
A California native, Ron Pulvers
was born and raised in the Redondo Beach/South Torrance area, where
he grew up a soccer fan. As a player, Pulvers started two seasons
for El Camino College, and was named All-South Coast Conference. He
moved on to Westmont College, where he was a starter for both his
years there.
He began his coaching career as an
assistant with Midwestern State University, helping the team to a
National Championship runner-up finish in 1995. Pulvers, who holds a
B.S. in Kinesiology from Westmont College and an M.S. in Kinesiology
from Midwestern State, earned an “A” license from the United States
Soccer Federation and an advanced diploma from the National Soccer
Coaches Association of America.
Pulvers’ first head coaching job
came with the Baker University Wildcats. In his time as coach of the
Wildcats, Pulvers posted an overall record of 126-70-14, and the
team never finished out of the NAIA National Top 25. He guided the
team to five conference championships, three conference tournament
championships, and two regional championships. He was named
conference coach of the year four times, and earned regional coach
of the year honors in 2002. At Baker, Pulvers coached 14
All-Americans and 15 Academic All-Americans.
That success has already
translated to Cal State San Marcos. In two years, Pulvers’ men’s
team has compiled a combined winning record, while his women’s team
made its first ever playoff appearance – and got its first ever
playoff victory – in 2007. With Pulvers at the helm, the future of
these programs looks exceedingly bright.

Bobby Renneisen, Assistant Coach
The team captain of the Baker Wildcats in 2001,
Bobby Renneisen moved from the playing field to the sideline the
following year. Before transferring to Baker, Renneisen was a
two-year starter for Cal State San Bernardino 98 and 99.
At Baker, he earned NAIA Academic All-American and Academic
All-Region in 2001, captaining the squad to the Regional Finals.
Renneisen earned a B.S. in physical science in
2002 and an M.A. in liberal arts in 2004 from Baker.
He brings to Cal State San Marcos his tactical
knowledge of the game and ability to relate to players, and is a
key component of the soccer program. |
