Baseball: Azusa Pacific Gets Revenge
By Kyle Trembley, 4/27/09
Cougar baseball suffered a tough loss in its final game of the regular season on Monday, as Azusa Pacific got revenge for a loss earlier this month, defeating CSUSM 21-6.
Despite the loss, CSUSM finishes its season with a school-best 25-14 record on the season. Coach Dennis Pugh's squad will make its first-ever post-season appearance next week at the A.I.I. Championships.
Monday's game was close early, with Azusa holding a 6-3 lead after three innings. But their offense would prove too much, and they'd cap off the scoring with a six-run eighth inning.
Highlights for San Marcos included James Scott and Austin Coleman both finishing their outstanding seasons with four hits. Scott blasted his team-leading 17th home run, and Dane Ponciano added his 10th. Josh Miller and Mike Pena added a pair of hits each, and Eric Julienne tossed a scoreless inning in relief.
