By Kyle Trembley, 4/27/09
Hosting the first-ever Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Championship on Monday, Cal State San Marcos sits in sixth place at the end of play on day one.
The tournament is taking place at Carlton Oaks Country Club, and of the six teams competing, three are ranked in the top-10 in the NAIA. The teams played two rounds on Monday, and will play the final round tomorrow morning.
British Columbia sits on top of the leaderboard, shooting team rounds of 292 and 288. They're six shots up on the University of Victoria (British Columbia), and seven ahead of Johnson & Wales (Florida). British Columbia is being led by Cory Renfrew, who shot a sparkling 66-71 (137) and leads the field.
For the Cougars, Shezad Lakdawala is tied for 21st after shooting 78-77. Robert Nicanor is close behind, tied for 23rd after rounds of 79 and 77. Just one shot back is Curtis Gruidl, who shot 79-78 and is in 25th. Also competing are Brandon Gandy (82-78) and Chris Alderete (80-84).
