British Columbia has won the first-ever Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Men's Golf Championship, finishing ten shots ahead of the University of Victoria to take home the title.

Host school Cal State San Marcos finished fourth, moving up two spots thanks to a strong round Tuesday.  Thomas University and SUNY-Delhi rounded out the field.

Played at Carlton Oaks Country Club, the tournament featured three of the top-10 teams in the NAIA.  #2-ranked British Columbia not only won the title, but took the top two individual spots thanks to Cory Renfrew and David Sheman, who shot three-round totals of 204 and 215, respectively.

For the Cal State San Marcos squad, after a so-so first day, the Cougars came out and shot one of their best rounds of the year on Tuesday.  Their team score of 302 was eight shots better than their round two score (and 14 better than round one), and vaulted them ahead of Thomas University and SUNY-Delhi in the standings.

Chris Alderete had the biggest turnaround.  After shooting 80-84 on day one, Alderete got on track with a sparkling 74 in today’s round for a total score of 238.

Robert Nicanor was right behind him, shooting 75 on Tuesday.  His three-day total of 231 tied with Shezad Lakdawala for the Cougar best.  For his part, Lakdawala continued to play solid golf, shooting a 76 today after round of 78 and 77 yesterday.

Curtis Gruidl also played well on Tuesday, carding a 77 for a total of 234.  Rounding out the team was Brandon Gandy with a total of 241.
