Track & Field Competes at UCSD

Cougar track & field entered the home stretch of its season on Saturday, competing at the UCSD Triton Invitational. Only UC Irvine and Occidental remain on the schedule before Nationals.
On the women's side, the Cougars dominated the 3,000-meter run, sweeping the top-3 spots for that event. Morgan Sjogren, Caitlin Villarreal, and Jessica Sandoval dominated the race, finishing 20 seconds ahead of the nearest competition. Sjogren won it with a time of 10:07, and Villarreal and Sandoval weren't far behind with times of 10:10 and 10:14, respectively.
Monika Valenzuela placed 9th in the 400-meter run with a time of 57.85.
On the men's side, Dave Edwards, Tony Guadagnini, Thomas Polhill, Stephen Tippett, and Patrick Fitzgerald all placed in the top-20 in the 400-meter run. They finished with respective times of 1:53.3, 1:54.4, 1:55.9, 1:56.3, and 1:56.8, with Edwards taking 5th place in the event.
Yuto Someya completed the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.23, good for 9th place.
In the field, Trever Long finished 9th in the triple jump with a distance of 13.66 meters. And finally, Kuba Wasowski also posted a long jump distance of 6.44 meters to place 7th.
