Cougar Track & Field Finishes Up Regular Season Competition at Occidental
By Kyle Trembley, 5/10/09
Track & Field competed in its final meet of the season on Saturday, taking part in the huge Occidental Invitational. The squad will be headed to Nationals on May 21st.
Not suprisingly, Dallon Williams headlined the Cougars' performance. The reigning steeplechase national champion was at it again on Saturday, winning the event with a meet record time of 10:17.21. Williams finished over 30 seconds clear of the field, and is a heavy favorite to repeat at national champion.
Also highlighting the Cougars' day were Caitlin Villarreal and Jessica Sandoval, who finished 4th and 6th in the 5,000-meter run with times of 17:03.27 and 17:09.21, respectively. Villarreal's time breaks the school record, and ranks her 5th in the NAIA in the event.
For the men, Dave Edwards took 9th in the 1,500-meter, running 3:52.78.
Full results are available on the Occidental website.
