Complete Results

The Cougar Track & Field team continued its season on Saturday, competing in the Pomona Pitzer Invitational in Claremont, CA.

As usual, plenty of Cougar athletes were at or near the top of most events' leaderboard. With just over half of the team's scheduled events this season completed, the roster for Natioanls is appearing to take shape, though there are still a lot of opportunities for Cougars to qualify.

In Saturday's event, the best Cougar finisher on the women's side was Samantha Showns. Competing in the 400-meter dash, Showns finished second overall, running 56.50.

Taliah Chatterfield had a strong all-around day, winning her heats in the 100 and 200-meter dash. Overall, she finished 18th and 25th overall in those events, running times of 12.88 and 26.65, respectively.

Bonghabih Shey was near the top of the leaderboard as usual, winning her heat in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.24. She finished 6th overall, 4 spots behind Showns.

In the field, Jessica Staub led her flight in the hammerthrow with a distance of 34.68. It was good for 17th overall. Luci Lapp had a strong showing in the javelin throw as well, finishing 8th overall with a distance of 30.92.

On the men's side, the 4x100-meter relay team placed a strong second overall. The group of Kyle Leavy, Billy Walker, Austin Sylvia, and Nicholas Stein finished with a time of 42.44.

After qualifying for Nationals last week, Cory Dart had another good showing in the 400-meter hurdles. He placed 5th overall with a time of 53.75.

Two Cougars finished in the overall top-10 in the 1,500-meter run. Sergio Gonzalez placed 3rd overall with a time of 3:55.85, while Michael Crouch won his heat and took 8th overall with a time of 3:58.48.

David Freund continued to close in on being the first field athlete to earn a spot on this year's Nationals roster. Competing in the pole vault, Freund took 4th by clearing 4.65 meters. That's just .05 meters off what it takes to earn the "B" standard, and .15 off the "A" standard." Ronnie McFadden also had a strong showing in the javelin, tallying 50.70 meters, good for 7th overall.

Next up for the squad is the three-day Mt. Sac Invitational next weekend.
