In a week that saw Cougar track and field
athletes competing in a couple different events, it was the
runners at the Mt. Sac Relays who shined the most.
In the huge competition, which featured dozens
of schools competing in multiple divisions, some of the Cougars
top athletes were able to make an impact.
Bonghabih Shey had yet another great
performance, and was the top Cougar finisher in any event.
Competing in the 800-meter run, Shey took 3rd in her heat with a
time of 3:11.57.
Sophomore Whitney Patton set a personal record
in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, running 11:16.33. She placed 8th
in the field.
Billy Walker posted a time of 10.85 in the
100-meter dash, his best performance of the season so far. He was
4th in his section.
Taliah Chatterfield continued to perform well
in the 100-meter hurdles, posting a time of 14.40.
Finally, the womens 4x400 relay team had
a good showing, placing 4th with a time of 3:51.98.
But Mt. Sac wasnt the only place the
Cougars were competing, as many of the squads members took
part in the Azusa Pacific University Invitational.
One of those was Taliah Chatterfield, who had a
particularly busy weekend. It didnt seem to affect her
performance though, as she finished 5th in the 100-meter hurdles
with a time of 14.50.
Also taking 5th in an event was Samantha
Showns, who ran 56.53 in the 400-meter dash.
Pole-vaulter David Freund was the story for the
mens side, as he met the B standard qualifying
mark for Nationals by clearing 15 ½ feet.
Thrower Ronnie McFadden notched one of his best
performances in the javelin this season, with a mark of 165.8 feet
good for 7th place.
On the track, Mike Crouch ran 358.66 in the
1,500-meter to take 6th. Hurdler Cory Dark placed 7th in the
400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.42. And the mens
4x400-meter relay team ran 3:19.42 to finish a strong 5th place.
The track team will continue to look to improve
and get more athletes qualified for Nationals as the season begins
to wind down. Theyll be competing at the UCSD Triton
Invitational next weekend.
