The Cougar track & field team competed in
the UCSD Triton Invitational on Friday and Saturday, joining a
field of over 1,700 athletes.
Despite the huge field of participants, Cougar
athletes found their way into the top-10 in many events. Leading
the way was triple jumper Andrea Talhami, who not only took 9th in
her event, but earned the "B" qualifying standard mark
for Nationals. Her total of 11.29 meters is less than 1/10th of a
meter away from the "A" standard.
Taliah Chatterfield continued her great season,
placing 10th in the 100-meter hurdles. She ran 14.72 on Saturday.
Billy Walker led all Cougars with a 6th-place
finish, as he ran the 100-meter dash in 10.92 seconds. While not
as good as his season-best time, Walker is consistently under 11
seconds now. He also placed 12th in the 200-meter run.
Anthony Guadagnini and Sergio Gonzalez also had
good showings. Competing in the 800-meter and 1,500-meter runs
(respectively), they ran 1:54 and 3:56. Guadagnini finished 10th,
while Gonzalez took 12th.
Cory Dart continued to be the team's top
hurdler. He placed 9th on Saturday, with a time of 54.73 in the
400-meter hurdles.
In the field, Conrad Ottey looked good in the
triple jump, taking 9th with a total of 12.76-meters. And Ronnie
McFadden had a javelin throw of 47.37 meters, good for 12th.
