One
In what is shaping up to be a very
tightly-contested tournament, day two of the NAIA Women's Golf
Championship concluded on Wednesday with Oklahoma City and British
Columbia tied for the lead. Cal State San Marcos fell back one
spot to 9th in the 23 team field.
Despite the number of teams between the Cougars
and the top of the leaderboard, CSUSM is just 19 shots back.
Considering that each team's daily score factors in the scores of
four of its golfers, CSUSM remains well within striking distance.
Sophomore Ellyse Siu led the Cougars on
Wednesday, putting together a very nice +4 (76) on the difficult
par-72 course at Lake San Marcos. She was second on the team
yesterday with a first-round 80. Her total score puts her in a tie
for 11th in the field of 120 golfers.
As expected, senior Jennell French rebounded
nicely from an 84 yesterday. She shot +5 (77) on day two, vaulting
herself into a tie for 25th in the overall tournament standings.
That's just behind Carly Ludwig, who followed up an outstanding
first round 76 with an 82 in round two. Ludwig is currently tied
for 21st in the field.
Other Cougars competing include Christina
Austin and Kate Hansen, who both shot +12 (84) in round two and
tied for 74th and 89th, respectively.
The Cougars' two-day team score is 643.
Oklahoma City and British Columbia, who have posted identical
totals in the first two rounds, are at 624. Bethel College's
Shanna Page leads the tournament, with a two-round total of +3.
The championship will continue on Thursday, and
a winner will be crowned after the final round on Friday.
