Day One
After day two of Nationals, the Cougar men's
golf team slipped down three spots to 10th, but is still right in
the thick of the tournament. Junior Scott Conway backed up a -1
(71) on day one with an even better -2 (70) on Wednesday, putting
him in 4th place.
Conway's two-day score of -3 is by far the best
on the CSUSM team. Brandon Scolman, who is tied for 39th, is
second on the squad after shooting a round two 77. His total score
of +6 is two better than Markus Wendel, who started strong on
Tuesday but eventually settled with a +5 (77). He's in a tie for
65th.
Junior Matt Determan shot the second-best round
of any Cougar in round two, a +4 (76), and his total score of +11
is now tied for 83rd. Freshman Kevin Riley rounds out the group
with a two-day total of +17.
Oklahoma Christian is poised to run away with
the team competition, as their team score of 571 is twelve shots
better than that of second-place Northwood. Though the Cougars'
596 puts them in 10th, they're within five strokes of the top-5.
The individual competition is led by David Tobin of Johnson &
Wales, who shot an amazing -6 (66) on Tuesday to skyrocket twenty
spots up the leaderboard. He's -5 for the tournament, meaning that
Conway is just two shots back.
The four-round tournament will crown a champion
on Friday. |
