One Recap
Saturday marked a successful end to a great
season of track & field for Cal State San Marcos, as seven
more Cougars earned All-American status, bringing the team's final
total to nine. As a team, the Cougar women finished in a very
impressive tie for 15th, while the men placed 31st.
Highlighting the day was Juan Mejia, who
finished 4th in the marathon with a time of 2 hours, 28 minutes,
and 5 seconds. The junior joins Ashleigh Davis, who took 4th in
the 400-meter hurdles on Friday, as the squad's top finishers at
Nationals.
Senior Bonghabih Shey, a cross-country
All-American, ran 2:12.51 in the 800-meter run to close out her
fantastic Cougar career with a 5th-place finish. Shey also
anchored the 4x400-meter relay team - featuring Samantha Showns,
Namadhjlah McIntosh, and Lucia Asbury - to a 6th-place finish.
Like Shey, Showns was a star in multiple events, finishing 5th in
the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.87.4.
