The Cougar Women’s Soccer Team
got a much-needed victory on Wednesday, winning easily over La
Sierra by a score of 2-0.
While the Cougars weren’t as
sharp as they’ve been at times this season, particularly when it
came to finishing, Coach Ron Pulvers isn’t complaining.
“We played great and moved the
ball very well,” commented Pulvers.
“We weren’t sharp with our finishing touch, but overall
it was pretty comfortable.”
A lot of that comfort came from
a goal in the 6th minute by forward Katelyn Krauss –
her first of two on the day. Taylor
Ziencina hit a corner into the box, and it was cleared right to
Krauss’ feet. She
took it on the dribble and drilled a shot into the top corner of the
net.
The 1-0 score would up through
the half, and Krauss would get the second half started the same way
she did the first. In
the 47th minute, Lucia Asbury played her a pass through
the defense, and Krauss finished off the opportunity to make it 2-0.
For Krauss, Wednesday’s two
goals gives her three on the year, but it could have been even more.
She hit the post once, and narrowly missed another
opportunity.
“Katelyn played great,”
noted Pulvers. “She
consistently showed up in dangerous spots, and we were able to find
her.”
It wasn’t all good news for
the Cougars, however. After
getting her assist early on, Taylor Ziencina left with a back
injury, and later Clarissa Hidalgo sustained an ankle injury.
Hopefully
those players will be back soon, as the squad is down the home
stretch of its season. They’ll
play at Chapman on Friday.
