It was a great freshman season for Elizabeth
Bush, and on Wednesday the outfielder was rewarded with a spot on
the All-Region team.
Bush hit a gaudy .323 during the inaugural
season of Cougar softball, tallying 7 extra base hits, driving
home 20 runs and scoring 17 more. She carried the Cougars
offense early in the season, hitting over .400 throughout the
first month. Bush was also excellent in the field, tying for the
team lead with 4 outfield assists.
The fact that Bush earned the honor in Region
II makes it all the more impressive. By far the NAIAs most
difficult and competitive region, it features 3 teams ranked in
the national top-10 at seasons end, including national
runner-up Point Loma Nazarene (whom the Cougars played four
times). Against PLNU, Bush was by far the Cougars biggest
weapon, going 5-for-12 with 3 RBI.
Bush, a San Diego native, played right field
for most of the season. The sophomore is expected to be one of the
key players on the Cougars in 2008.
