Box Score
Coming off a painful loss
earlier this week, the Cougar men’s soccer team rebounded nicely
on Saturday, posting a convincing 2-0 victory over Pomona Pitzer.
The win bumps up the Cougars’
record to 2-3 on the season.
It was smooth sailing for CSUSM
for almost all 90 minutes on Saturday, as the Cougars dictated the
pace of game and controlled the action.
“We took the game to them,”
commented assistant coach Davy Phillips.
“We definitely played better today than in previous
games.”
CSUSM’s first goal came when
defender Brian Luhrs knocked a beautiful pass over the defense,
finding midfielder Miguel Jacobo.
Jacobo, always nifty with his feet, settled the ball out of
the air, and on his next touch drilled it into the side netting to
make the score 1-0. It
was Jacobo’s first goal of the 2007 season.
The Cougars’ second goal came
courtesy of forward Curtis Marcikic, who leads the team in season
scoring thus far with 4 goals.
Midfielder Chris Wyatt connected with Bradley Seidenglanz on
a pass, and Seidenglanz slipped the ball to Marcikic, who finished
by sliding his shot past the keeper.
The
Cougar men will look to build on Saturday’s momentum when they
travel to Point Loma on Tuesday.
