Competing in their second
tournament of the Fall season, the Cougar women’s golf team placed
18th at the Aztec Fall Classic.
Adriana Bormann led CSUSM by finishing in a tie for 64th.
Hosted by San Diego State at
Salt Creek Golf Course in Chula Vista, the tournament featured a
high-profile field of 19 teams.
Numerous Division I teams competed in the two-round event,
which was won by U.C. Irvine with a total team score of +17.
For the Cougars, the tournament
is an opportunity to compete in a very strong field, which should
help when next May’s Nationals rolls around.
Coach Fred Hanover's team finished with a total score of +93.
"It's a good learning
experience," commented Hanover.
The tournament marked the first
time that Bormann has been the team’s top finisher at the event.
She shot 79 and 83 on the par-72 course, giving her a total
score of +18 (162).
Senior Carly Ludwig was the
team’s next finisher, tying for 74th with a +20 (164).
Following her was Ellyse Siu, who placed 97th with
a +27 (171). Rounding
out the squad were freshman Linnel de Villa and senior Kate Hansen,
who shot 172 and 182, finishing in 98th and 102nd
place, respectively.
The
Cougars’ next event of the season will be their biggest treat.
Coach Hanover is taking the returning active players from
last year’s squad to play at the Waikoloa Golf Club in Hawaii a
week from Friday.
