In just the
second year of women's soccer at Cal State San Marcos, Coach Ron
Pulvers' squad is headed to the Region II playoffs, it was announced
Sunday.
Pulvers’ #6
ranked Cougars will go on the road to take on #3 ranked Concordia
University. The game
will take place at Concordia on Wednesday, October 31st,
at 1:00 PM.
“For our young
team, this is going to be a great opportunity to get experience in a
playoff setting,” commented Pulvers.
“This is well-deserved for our girls, they played their way
into this position.”
Aside from the
obvious opportunity to compete for a regional, and potentially a
national, championship, the game will be a chance for the Cougar
women to avenge their worst loss of the season.
Back on September 8th, Concordia handed CSUSM a
4-1 defeat in a game that the Cougars “were never in,” according
to Pulvers.
“They’re a
tough match-up for us,” he noted.
“Their forwards have size and great pace.
We really must be at our best to win.”
The Region II playoffs consist of eight teams and three
rounds. In all three
rounds, games are played at the site of the higher-seeded team, with
re-seeding occurring after the first round.
Should the Cougars defeat Concordia, they’ll play their
second-round game on Friday the 2nd at 1:00 PM.
The Region II Championship Game will be played the following
Tuesday, with the winner getting an automatic bid to the NAIA National
Championships.
