As predicted, #1 ranked Oklahoma
City dominated the CSUSM Invitational, winning going away. But
the Cal State San Marcos women's golf team had a very good showing,
finishing second behind Carly Ludwig, who placed second
individually. The
two-round tournament, hosted by CSUSM at Lake San Marcos Country
Club, featured a quality field of ten schools. It could be
seen as a warm-up for the NAIA National Championships, which will be
played on the same par-72, 6,064 yard course this May.
#1 Oklahoma City's two-day total team score of 619
was 37 shots clear of CSUSM, who shot 656 to place second.
North Dakota State finished third, shooting 659. Individually,
Oklahoma City's Ashley Sholer took the title, shooting 72-78 for a
total score of +6 (150).
Cougar senior Carly Ludwig, however, was not far behind.
Ludwig shot 78-76 for a +10 (154) and the runner-up trophy.
She was joined in the top-10 by
fellow Cougar Natalie Todd, who followed up a first-round 86 with an
excellent 77, for a total score of +19 (163). Todd finished
tied for 8th. Also
competing for the Cougars were Roxanne Mejia (168; T-18th), Ellyse
Siu (171; T-25th), and Linnel de Villa (181; T-39th). Adriana
Bormann, competing as an individual, shot 166 to finish 16th.
Katie Lorden (172; T-27th), Kathryn Hansen (180; 38th), and Ashley
Huizing (192; 45th) also played as individuals for CSUSM.
The Cougar women will be back on the course March
16th at Diablo Grande Country Club.
