Box Score
Cal State San Marcos softball
traveled up to Point Loma on Tuesday to complete a
previously-postponed game from February 14th, and though the Cougars
played them tough, CSUSM ended up falling 1-0.
The loss drops CSUSM to a
still-impressive 10-6 on the season. Facing
Point Loma ace Tyler Lent, the Cougars' best chance to score came in
the first inning, where the game resumed on Tuesday. Erica
Coelho reached second on a double with one out, but Lent escaped
with no damage. She would hold CSUSM to just three more hits
throughout the rest of her six innings of work, before turning it
over to Melissa Gomez in the seventh, who picked up the save. For
the Cougars, the game was a very tough-luck loss for Melissa Lerno.
She threw six excellent innings, surrendering no earned runs on 7
hits and no walks. But a two-out error in the second inning
opened the door for Point Loma to score the game's first and only
run. The Cougars will look
to get back on track at home against Azusa Pacific on March 1st.
