Cal State San Marcos’ men’s golf team finished 15th at the Point Loma/Smee Builder’s Invitational on Tuesday.  Scott Conway was the team’s top finisher, tying for 32nd.

The three round tournament was held on Steele Canyon Golf Courses’ par-72 6,478-yard course.  Sixteen teams competed, with host school Point Loma winning by three shots over La Verne.  Redlands’ Scott Canavan won the individual competition with a three-round total of -2 (214).

CSUSM, which was competing without #3 golfer Shezad Lakdawala, finished with a total team score of 963.  Conway shot 75-83-77 for a total score of +19 (235) to once again lead the team.  His first round 75 was the best of any cougar at the tournament.

Brandon Gandy was second on the team, tying for 40th with a score of 237.  Kevin Riley tied for 65th with a 245; Kyle Anderson tied for 71st with a 253; and Kyle Kelch placed 82nd with a 268.

With two tournaments left before Regionals, Coach Fred Hanover is looking for an improvement in his team’s play.

“We’re going to have to work hard to become both physically and mentally tougher,” commented Hanover.
