Cal State San Marcos’ men’s
golf team finished 15th at the Point Loma/Smee
Builder’s Invitational on Tuesday.
Scott Conway was the team’s top finisher, tying for 32nd.
The three round tournament was
held on Steele Canyon Golf Courses’ par-72 6,478-yard course.
Sixteen teams competed, with host school Point Loma winning
by three shots over La Verne. Redlands’
Scott Canavan won the individual competition with a three-round
total of -2 (214).
CSUSM, which was competing
without #3 golfer Shezad Lakdawala, finished with a total team score
of 963. Conway shot 75-83-77 for a total score of +19 (235) to once
again lead the team. His
first round 75 was the best of any cougar at the tournament.
Brandon Gandy was second on the
team, tying for 40th with a score of 237.
Kevin Riley tied for 65th with a 245; Kyle
Anderson tied for 71st with a 253; and Kyle Kelch placed
82nd with a 268.
With two tournaments left before
Regionals, Coach Fred Hanover is looking for an improvement in his
team’s play.
“We’re
going to have to work hard to become both physically and mentally
tougher,” commented Hanover.
