It was a successful couple of
days for Coach Steve Scott’s track & field team at the Point Loma
Invitational, as his athletes captured numerous individual wins on
their way to Nationals.
Star runner Namadhjlah McIntosh
won the women’s 200-meter dash with a time of 25.27, and also
finished third in the 100-meter with a time of 13.07. Fellow runner
Samantha Showns won the 400-meter in 56.21. The only other athlete
to break one-minute in the event was teammate Lucia Asbury, who
placed second at 58.63.
For the men, Nick Stein took the
title at the 400-meter dash, finishing a fraction of a second ahead
of teammate Thomas McDougal to claim the title with a time of
49.15. Tony Guadagnini joined them in the winner’s circle, running
the 1,500-meter in 3:57.48. The men’s 4x100-meter relay team bested
four other schools to win their event in 42.06 seconds. And Ronnie
McFadden continued his strong season in the field, winning the
discus with a throw of 45.59 meters.
Other top-5 finishes include
Ashleigh Davis in the women’s 100-meter hurdles (2nd;
14.41), Laura Huering in the women’s 1,500-meter (4th;
4:52), and Jessica Staub in the shot put (4th; 9.80
meters) and discus (5th; 33.59 meters).
On the men’s side, top-5
finishers included Billy Walker in the 100-meter (2nd;
10.98), Austin Sylvia in the 200-meter (2nd; 22.42),
Kevin Ott Wright and Cory Dart in the 400-meter hurdles (2nd;
53.72 and 3rd; 54.03, respectively), David Freund in the
pole vault (T-2nd; 4.60 meters), and Thomas Polhill in the
1,500-meter (5th; 4:06).
Cougar track & field will be in
action this weekend at both Fresno State and Point Loma.
