Cougar track & field had another strong showing on Saturday at Pomona Pitzer, particularly in the 400-meter dash, where sprinters Samantha Showns and Nicholas Stein broke the school records for that event.

Showns, an All-American who has been a star on the team for the last couple years, broke her own school record by running 55.46.  Her old mark was 55.81.  She finished fourth out of a large field of competitors on Saturday.

Stein, a sophomore, broke teammate Kevin Ott Wright's old record of 49.55 in the 400-meter by running 48.86 on Saturday, good for fifth place.   Stein also finished 10th in the 200-meter dash, running 22.25.

Other runners turning in good performances included Anthony Guadagnini, who ran 3:56 in the 1,500-meter to place 4th; Billy Walker, who took 7th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.95 seconds; Cory Dart, who finished the 400-meter hurdles in 52.88 to place 8th; and Thomas McDougal, who finished 16th in the 200-meter and 12th in the 400-meter.

In the field, David Freund continued his run to Nationals by clearing 4.65 meters in the pole vault to place fourth.  Ronnie McFadden finished 9th in the shot-put at 14th in the discus.

On the women's side, Stephanie Erdodi took 8th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 67.52; Laura Heuring placed 11th in the 1,500-meter by running 4:46; and Lucia Asbury ran 59.13 in the 400-meter to take 13th.

The team will be in action again this weekend at UCLA.
