Competing against the likes of USC and Notre Dame, Cougar track & field participated in the Long Beach Invitational on Saturday.

CSUSM has three more meets before Nationals, meaning there are just three more opportunities for Cougar athletes to qualify for May's National Championships.

Despite the tough field on Saturday, CSUSM was able to make its mark.  Star hurdler Ashleigh Davis tied for 10th in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.35, beating out numerous NCAA Division I competitors.  Anthony Guadagnini did the same in the men's 1,500-meter, finishing 9th in 3 minutes and 53 seconds.  Kevin Ott Wright also cracked the top-10, completing the 400-meter hurdles in 53.72 seconds to place 9th.  Cory Dart was right behind him, taking 11th in 52.80 seconds.  Billy Walker took 18th in the men's 200-meter dash, running 22.01.  Nicholas Stein ran 48.86 in the 400-meter dash, finishing 21st.

The men's 4x100-meter relay team placed 6th out of 11 teams, running 42.83.  In the field, pole vaulter David Freund cleared 4.75-meters to finish 10th.

Next week the squad will compete at the UCSD Triton Invitational.
