4/26/08

Day One Results

Running in wet conditions at the NAIA Track & Field National Championships, Sergio Gonzalez and Morgan Sjogren became Cal State San Marcos’ first All-Americans of this season.

The pair of 10K runners lived up to their billing, finishing third and fourth respectively in their event on the first day of Nationals.

Gonzalez ran 30:43 and cruised to a third-place finish, easily qualifying him for All-American status.  The men’s race was one by Azusa Pacific’s two-time defending champ Aron Rono, who finished in 29:56.

On the women’s side, Sjogren was equally impressive, placing fourth with a time of 36:00.  The event was won by Indiana Tech’s Alissa McKaig.

The National Championships will run through Friday and Saturday, with more than 20 other Cougars getting their shot at being named an All-American.
