We're coming to you live from DAY TWO of the NAIA Women's Golf National Championships!  As you can see, it's a packed house here at Lake San Marcos Country Club.  It's important to note that I used all my comedic material on day one, so expect this "Day in Pictures" to be much more fact-based and...wait I think I just saw Judge Smails walk in.

After round one of the tournament, Cal State San Marcos leads the field with a team score of 311.

But many schools are lurking, including three-time defending champ Oklahoma City.  Yesterday, they were "the Yankees, circa 2000."  Today, I'm calling them "Darth Vader."

As always, golf tournaments offer plenty of interesting fashion decisions.  From the spectators...

...to the golfers.

Here comes CSUSM Head Coach Fred Hanover!  I ask him how it feels to be leading after day one.  His response:  "Pretty good."  Thanks, Fred.

CSUSM roll call!  That's Kate Hansen teeing off - she shot 90 on day one.

Quick break from the roll call to admire the snack selection.  Hey, if golfing involved more snacks, less walking, and less hitting of golf balls, I might just take it up!

That's Ellyse Siu teeing off.  She's tied for 16th after day one.

You see:  a beautiful fairway.
I see:  a long walk.

We're starting on the front 9 today.  Here's Ellyse's second shot on hole 1 - she'd go on to bogey the hole.

Speaking of interesting fashion decisions, there's Adriana Bormann.

And Natalie Todd, who enters today's round tied for third place.  We're going to follow her for a hole or two, then swing back and find our last golfer, Carly Ludwig.

Natalie navigating a tree to make her second shot on hole 1.

Putting for par...

And she gets it!

Adriana chipping onto the green on hole 2.  She would bogey the hole.

Ellyse Siu putting on hole 3.  She would bogey the hole.  It'd probably be good to point out that there are occasional 30 mph gusts of wind right now.

Kate Hansen in trouble on hole 4.  This shot would travel about 5 yards.

Here's today's "way to tell that you hit a bad shot":  When getting to your ball would involve breaking and entering, you know you hit a bad shot.  This was the unfortunate resting place for Ellyse Siu's drive on hole 4.

After the drop, things wouldn't get much better - triple bogey.

Adriana avoided hitting any houses on four, but still bogeyed the hole.

Natalie Todd trying her luck on four.  This ball landed out of bounds.  Yesterday I nicknamed hole 16 "The Monster."  Today, I'm nicknaming hole 4 "The Widowmaker."  It was between that and "Mega Godzilla."

Hey, there's Carly Ludwig!  She entered this round tied for 11th.

Carly putting for birdie on 3.  It wouldn't go, but she'd still make par.

Uh oh, hole #4.  Here's her shot...

.....it might be decent....

Nope.  But she would save par!

After a rough go at hole 4, Natalie just crushes her drive on 5.

Ellyse chipping on 6.  Hey, that's got a shot...

...ohh, so close. She'd tap in for par.

Adriana teeing off on 6.  As you can might have guessed, it's been a bit of a rough round so far.

That's it, I'm going rogue again.

In Florida, they have alligators on the golf course.  In San Marcos?  Ducks.

Ellyse with her second shot on the par-5 seventh.

Now pitching from the rough.  She'd go on to make par.

Ellyse teeing off on 8.  She'd shoot a front-9 43.

My favorite sequence of the day.  Kate is flagging down a rules official to ask for relief from the weird ground construction going on.

Discussing what to do...

...measuring club lengths...

...taking a drop...

And, 10 minutes later, taking her shot 3 feet away from the original spot!  You have to love golf sometimes.

The three feet unfortunately didn't help.

Ouch.

And that pretty much sums up the front nine for CSUSM.  The squad will look to turn it around on the back nine, and stay near the top of the leaderboard.  Check back later for a recap of the day's action!
