Box Score
Playing
in San Francisco, CSUSM women’s soccer got a big win on Friday,
defeating San Francisco State 2-1.
The
#13 ranked Cougars are now 8-2-2 on the season. San Francisco State drops to 8-5-2.
CSUSM
seems to have fully recovered from a tough loss last Sunday at home
to La Sierra. After
defeating Chapman on Tuesday, the Cougars left on their road trip
Thursday, and played quality soccer today to get the win.
The
Cougars got on the board first, getting a goal from an unlikely
source. Breanna Brenton,
one of the team’s super solid back line defenders, knocked one in
off a corner kick from Taylor Ziencina in the 28th
minute. CSUSM took the
1-0 lead into halftime of the tightly-played game.
Early
in the second half, the Cougars added an insurance goal that turned
out to be crucial. A
penalty kick was awarded to CSUSM in the 65th minute, and
senior Katelyn Krauss drove her shot past the keeper.
It turned out to be the game winner, as S.F. State’s Robin
Bowman got her team on the board in the 88th minute,
making it 2-1. CSUSM
was able to hold on and pick up the win.
The
Cougars will play the second and final game of their road trip on
Saturday at Cal State East Bay.
