Women's Golf Finishes 7th at Aztec Fall Classic

CSUSM women's golf finished out play at the Aztec Fall Classic with a strong team round on Tuesday, finishing 7th overall at the tournament, just one shot behind Idaho State.

September 28 -- Women's Golf Season Starts Today

The Cougar women's golf fall season starts today, as the squad is set to play in the first round of the Grand Canyon Invitational at Monarch Dunes Golf Course in Avondale, AZ.  Results will be posted on this site.

May 19 -- DeVilla and Mejia Named Honorable Mention All-Americans!

Congratulations to Linnel DeVilla and Roxanne Mejia for being named Honorable Mention All-Americans!  The sophomore duo led the CSUSM women's golf team all season, culminating in the 10th-place finish at last week's Nationals.

May 15 - Women's Golf Earns 10th Straight Top-10 Finish at Nationals

Cougar women's golf finished up its season on Friday, taking 10th place at the NAIA National Championships.  Sophomores Roxanne Mejia and Linnel de Villa led the way, finishing tied for 21st and 26th, respectively.

#10-ranked Cougar women's golf is competing at the NAIA National Championships RIGHT NOW at Meadowbrook Country Club in South Dakota!  You can follow the team live through the official NAIA website.

Day One Update:  Linnel de Villa shoots a strong +5 (77), leading the Cougars to a solid opening round of 321.  CSUSM is currently tied for 9th.

Day Two Update:  CSUSM moves up to a tie for 7th on the strenght of a second-round 333 in very difficult conditions.  Linnel de Villa once again was the team's top performer, shooting an 81.  She's tied for 14th halfway through the championship.

Day Three Update:  The Cougars continue to move up, and now are in sixth heading into the tournament's final day.  Roxanne Mejia shot an awesome round of +2 (74) and is currently tied for 15th in the field, while Linnel de Villa is just one shot behind and tied for 19th.

Day Four Update:  CSUSM finishes 10th overall after a final day marked by 50-degree weather and 30 mph winds.  Full press release will be available when final results are available.

May 1 -- Women's Golf Officially Qualifies for Nationals

Coach Fred Hanover's women's golf team has officially earned an at-large bid to the 2009 Women's Golf National Championship!  The Cougars, ranked #10 nationally in the season's final pool, will head to Meadowbrook Golf Course in Western South Dakota to compete at the event from May 12-15.

April 1 -- DeVilla, Mejia Lead Women's Golf to Strong Finish at Anteater Invitational

Competing in a field of NCAA schools on a very difficult course, the #9-ranked Cal State San Marcos women's golf team placed a very solid 12th at the Anteater Invitational, hosted by UC Irvine at Santa Ana Country Club.

March 31 -- Women's Golf Moves Up to 12th After Round Two

After Tuesday's second round of the Anteater Invitational, Cougar women's golf has moved up to 12th place in the NCAA-heavy field.  Linnel DeVilla shot an outstanding 75 in round two, and is currently leading the team, tied for 42nd.  Roxanne Mejia continued her strong play, shooting a solid 78, and she is just one shot back of DeVilla for the tournament.  The third and final round will be played tomorrow.

March 30 -- Women's Golf in 13th After Day One of Anteater Invitational

Competing at Santa Ana Country Club, Cougar women's golf sits in 13th place after one round of the Anteater Invitational, hosted by UC Irvine.  Roxanne Mejia is leading the way, tied for 41st after shooting 83.  Linnel DeVilla shot 86, and is second on the team.  Round one results are posted below:

March 24 -- Mejia, Todd Place in Top-20 at Sacramento State Invitational

Members of the Cougar women's golf team competed as individuals at the Sacramento State Invitational, which wrapped up today at Valley Hi Country Club.

March 23 -- Women's Golf Competes at Sacramento State Invitational

The CSUSM women's golf team is competing at the Sacramento State Invitational this week.  The Cougar women are competing as individuals, and sophomore Roxanne Mejia is leading the way.  Mejia shot an 81 in Monday's first round, good for a tie for 14th.  Round two will be played tomorrow.

March 16 -- Women's Golf Takes 13th at Hiddenbrooke Intercollegiate

Cougar women's golf continued its season on Monday, finishing up play at the Hiddenbrooke Intercollegiate.  The Cougars took 13th place as a team, with Stephanie Cole leading the way by finishing tied for 22nd.

March 14 -- Women's Golf Tied for 11th After Round One of Hiddenbrooke; Cole Tied for Sixth

Cougar women's golf is tied for 11th after the first round of the Hiddenbrooke Intercollegiate.  The two-round event, hosted by Drake University at Hiddenbrooke Country Club, features a field of 18 schools and over 100 golfers.  For CSUSM, Stephanie Cole led the way, shooting a round of 80 on the very difficult par-72 course.  She's currently tied for sixth, and just two shots back of second.  Roxanne Mejia is second on the team, tied for 39th after shooting a round of 86.

February 17 -- California U. of PA Wins, CSUSM Women's Golf Takes Second at CSU San Marcos Invitational

Shortened to one round due to rain, the CSU San Marcos Invitational finished up play at Lake San Marcos Country Club on Tuesday.

February 16 -- Round One of CSU San Marcos Invitational Washed Out

The first round of the women's golf CSU San Marcos Invitational, hosted by CSUSM at Lake San Marcos Country Club, has been washed out.  Play will resume tomorrow at 7:30 AM.

February 10 -- Women's Golf Places 11th at Rain-Shortened Lady Braveheart Classic

Cougar women's golf competed in its first event of the spring on Tuesday, placing 11th at the Lady Braveheart Classic.  Linnel De Villa finished tied for 14th to lead the Cougars.

Baseball Update:  The baseball home game today between CSUSM and San Diego Christian has been RAINED OUT.  No reschedule date has been set.
 
Men's Golf Update:  Round one of the Cougar Invitational was rained out, but round two is schedule to begin at 11:00 AM at San Luis Rey Downs.
 
Women's Golf Update:  Round one of the Riverside Invitatonal is currently delayed.

October 14 -- Linnel De Villa Ties for Second, Roxanne Mejia Ties for Fifth at Aztec Invitational
A pair of outstanding individual performances highlighted the Aztec Fall Classic for Cal State San Marcos women’s golf, as Cougars Linnel De Villa and Roxanne Mejia both notched top-5 finishes, while the team as a whole finished fifth.

September 30 -- Women's Golf Solid in First Tourney of the Fall; Finishes 7th
Competing in their first tournament since last spring's school-record third place finish at Nationals, the rebuilt Cougar women's golf team performed well, placing 7th at the Grand Canyon Fall Invitational.  Sophomore Roxanne Mejia led the way by tying for 14th.

Competing in their first tournament of the Fall season, Coach Fred Hanover's Cougar Women's Golf team sits in 7th place after day one of the Grand Canyon Invitational.  Roxanne Mejia is leading CSUSM, currently sitting in the top-10 overall, and newcomer Stephanie Cole had a very good debut.
