Finish 8th at 2008 NAIA Track & Field National Championships
Coach Steve Scott's track & field team earned a record 12
All-Americans and 2 National Champions at this year's National
Championships. As a team, both the Cougar men and women
finished 8th in the country.

May 24 -- Women's 4x400 Meter
Team Finishes Sixth, Caps Off Huge Year for Cougar Track & Field
In the final event of the 2008 National Championships, the Cougar
women's 4x400 meter team earned All-American status, finishing in
sixth place. The team of Namadhjlah McIntosh, Lucia Asbury,
Monika Valenzuela, and Samantha Showns timed in at 3:53.37.
CSUSM finishes the National Championships with 12 total
All-Americans.

May 24 -- Twice is Nice for
Sergio Gonzalez, Earns All-American in 5K; Sjogren Finishes 8th
Sergio Gonzalez earned dual-All American status on Saturday night,
finishing 4th in the men's 5,000-meter run. This comes two
days after he took third in the 10,000-meter. Gonzalez timed
in at 14:39 in the 5K. Meanwhile, fellow 10K All-American
Morgan Sjogren finished 8th in the women's 5K with a time of 17:55.

May 24 -- David Freund Ties
for 11th in Pole Vault; Ronnie McFadden 21st in Shot Put
In the field, pole vaulter David Freund placed 11th in the men's
pole vault on Saturday. He cleared 4.55 meters. Ronnie
McFadden placed 21st in the shot put with a throw of 39.78 meters.

May 24 -- Samantha Showns
Repeats as All-American
In her second-straight All-American performance, sprinter Samantha
Showns took fifth place in the women's 400-meter dash at the Track
& Field National Championships Saturday, running 56.19.
She's the seventh All-American (and counting) for Coach Steve
Scott's track & field team this year.

May 24 -- Tony Guadagnini
Takes Fourth in 1500-meter
Tony Guadagnini became Cal State San Marcos' sixth All-American this
year, taking fourth place in the 1,500-meter run at the Track &
Field National Championships. Guadagnini timed in at 3:51.07,
earning 5 points for the Cougar men, who are currently in 9th place.

WINS the Steeplechase!
Not long after teammate Juan Mejia became the second Cougar to win a
national championship, junior Dallon Williams became the third.

May 24 -- Juan Mejia WINS the
Marathon!
Senior distance runner Juan Mejia became the second athlete in the
history of Cal State San Marcos to win a national championship,
winning the marathon on the final day of the 2008 Track & Field
National Championships.

May 24 -- Sin Carrano
Finishes 9th in Women's Marathon
Freshman runner Sin Carrano posted a nice Nationals debut on
Saturday, finishing 9th in the women's marathon. She timed in
at 3:11:53, less than 10 minutes behind the winner, Kaitlin Fadden
of Houghton College.

Running in wet conditions at the NAIA Track & Field National
Championships, Sergio Gonzalez and Morgan Sjogren became Cal State
San Marcos’ first All-Americans of this season.

of Athletes to Nationals
Coach Steve Scott will be sending a school-record 24 athletes to
next week's NAIA Track & Field National Championships in St. Louis.

Competes at Occidental, Final Stop Before Nationals
Coach Steve Scott's Track & Field team competed at its final
regular season meet on Saturday, the Oxy Invite at Occidental
College in Los Angeles.

Scott Invitational
Steve Scott’s Cougar track & field team
continued its march to Nationals this weekend, competing at an event
named after him – the Steve Scott Invitational at U.C. Irvine (his
alma mater).
With Nationals just a couple weeks
away, CSUSM’s top athletes were in top form at the large event,
which featured teams from UNLV, San Diego State, and Oklahoma, among
many others.

Triton Invitational
Cal State San Marcos track & field is just a few
weeks away from Nationals, and the squad continued to prepare this
weekend, competing at the UCSD Triton Invitational on Friday and
Saturday.

Beach Invitational
Competing against the likes of USC and Notre Dame, Cougar track &
field participated in the Long Beach Invitational on Saturday.

at Pomona
Cougar track & field had another strong showing on Saturday at
Pomona Pitzer, particularly in the 400-meter dash, where sprinters
Samantha Showns and Nicholas Stein broke the school records for that
event.

March 29 -- Track & Field Shines Amidst Tough
Competition at Cal-Nevada Championships
Coach Steve Scott’s track & field team showed it can
hang with anyone on Saturday, competing against mostly NCAA
Division-I schools at the Cal-Nevada Championships. The Cougar men’s
team finished 7th out of 20 teams, while the women took 9th out of
21 teams.

It was a successful couple of days for
Coach Steve Scott’s track & field team at the Point Loma
Invitational, as his athletes captured numerous individual wins on
their way to Nationals.

& Field Competes at Two Meets
Coach Steve Scott's track & field team posted a couple more
impressive showings on Friday, as the distance runners competed at
the Occidental Distance Carnival while the rest took part in the
Aztec Track and Field Classic.

City Championships
Competing against U.C. San Diego, Point Loma, and San Diego
State, the Cal State San Marcos track & field looked great at
the San Diego City Championships on Saturday.

Track & Field: Four Cougars Earn “A” Standard
at APU Last Chance Indoor Qualifier
In the Cougar track & field team’s first event of the spring, four
runners earned their “A” Standard at the Azusa Pacific Last Chance
Indoor Qualifier over the weekend. Three other runners earned their
“B” standard.

Feb. 4 -- Off to a Quick Start: Mejia and
Elorza Already Qualified for Track Nationals
Pouring rain and biting wind isn’t exactly
the image of ideal running weather, but that didn’t matter to Juan
Mejia and Leo Elorza on Sunday. Competing in the rain-soaked Surf
City Half-Marathon, the two Cougar runners posted times good enough
to qualify for the marathon at May’s NAIA National Championships.
