La Posta Reservation
Ethnology-Language: Kumeyaay
Established: 1893
County: San Diego
Acreage: 3,556
Population: 18
Location: Fifty-six miles east of San Diego and 46 miles west of El Centro in the Laguna Mountains, bordered on its southwest corner by Interstate 8.

La Posta is in the high desert country of the Laguna Mountains, in the shadow of 6,270-foot-high Mt. Laguna and at the eastern edge of Cleveland National Forest. One approaches the tribal offices by way of a single dirt road where vistas of the surrounding high desert landscape are well worth the drive. A state of the art Substance Abuse Center is one of two non-residential buildings on the reservation. This small tribe enjoys their seclusion and privacy.

Library: The library, as of Fall of 2000, was a single box of books. According to folks in the Education Center, there was a library at one time, but the tribal hall moved three different times and the library's collection dwindled with each move. Two old computers went unused in a back room. The tribe expressed an interest in opening a library one day. Grants will be pursued.
