Location: On. U. S. 395, just south of Lone Pine, in south central California.
Set on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada Range, Lone Pine enjoys breathtaking views
of the majestic mountains and provides horses for many pack trips. The Owens River, when
it runs, passes Lone Pine on its way to Owens Lake. Newer homes, built by the Owens Valley
Indian Housing Authority, dot the sparsely populated reservation.
Library: The library at Lone Pine spreads throughout the Lone Pine School
and was established in the early 1980s with a collection of approximately 1,500 volumes.
The library is overseen by Education staff -Mary
Jefferson, who has twenty years experience, and
Sarah, who works on a MESA (Math Engineering Science Achievment) grant. The collection is
aging and in need of updated materials, particularly for the reservation children who
frequent the library. An adjacent computer lab has eight networked computers with internet
access.[ View Photos of this Reservation
