The Border Pedagogy Initiative

The Border Pedagogy Initiative is a project launched between two universities, Cal State San Marcos in San Diego County and Universidad Iberoamericana in Tijuana.  The Initiative is symbolized by the following logo, which embodies the vision and mission of the founders.

The line that divides both countries is depicted with a fence of many colors, symbolizing the variety of people who cross the border.

The swirling movement in green is the energy that flows back and forth across the border, green symbolizing hope.

The circle symbolizes the beginning and the ending of cycles of life and activity.

Inside the circle there are Aztec symbols at the top and bottom that depict the language, dialogue and communication.  The tadpole inside the circle is also an Aztec symbol that depicts rebirth, growth and movement into new forms and evolution.

All of these symbols come together to emphasize what border pedagogy embodies:  unity, hope, growth, evolution, understanding and dialogue that results in a new creation.
