Career Counselor and
College of Education, Health
and Human Services (CoEHHS) Liaison
My role at Cal State San Marcos
As a career counselor at Cal State San Marcos, I am grateful for the opportunity to help students discover their passion and translate that into career/life goals. I love teaching and facilitating career development and management for a diverse group of clients.
My career path
My work experience includes teaching English, banking, sales and even food service. I found my passion in career counseling when I realized that throughout my college experience, I had never learned how “perform” in an interview. It was then that I realized my desire to help others learn career skills. My academic background includes a Master’s degree in Education with an emphasis in cross-cultural counseling and B.A. in Asian Studies with a minor in Japanese language, both from San Diego State University. I currently serve on the board of American Association for Employment in Education and am an active member in a number of career-related professional organizations.
The rewards in doing what I do
I am constantly amazed by the students and graduates of Cal State San Marcos, and continue to learn from them every day. It is so rewarding to watch students master skills and knowledge that help in their career success. I love to hear from students and alumni when they’ve landed a job or reached a milestone in their lives!
My words of wisdom to students
Sometimes as a student I got caught up in exams and deadlines and just trying to graduate, often forgetting to appreciate and enjoy the experiences that were contributing to my education. My advice; be proactive and create the amazing experience you want to have in college!
In my free timeI love to travel and would like to visit many more countries within this lifetime! I also enjoy cooking for family and friends. I love dancing and music, and currently I am learning to play the ukulele.
