My role at CSU San Marcos

As a Career Counselor, my role is to help facilitate the career development of students and alumni through individual counseling and workshops. I have the privilege of working with students in CHABSS as well as veterans and others affiliated with the military.

My career path

I have a B.A. in Public Policy from the College of William and Mary as well as an M.A. in Counseling from Wake Forest University. After graduating from college, I worked for a public relations firm in DC prior to embarking upon my graduate degree. I realized that I was more interested in working directly with individuals than in working with larger entities, which is part of the reason I decided to pursue counseling. I have since worked in a variety of environments, including a residential youth shelter, substance abuse treatment program, nonprofit organization, and government contractor. I find joy in helping people overcome obstacles and believe in their potential.

The rewards in doing what I do

It’s very gratifying to help others identify new possibilities and make the best use of their strengths and talents. I love helping students uncover more of who they are and what makes them unique.

My words of wisdom to students

Be flexible and stay open to new opportunities, both academically and in the world of work, as you never know what the future holds. Don’t be afraid to take some risks.

In my free time

I love spending time outside in beautiful San Diego. I enjoy hiking with my husband and my dog, running, traveling, and cooking/baking.
