*Celebrate Wellness Throughout April (and Beyond) at the Clarke  Field House*!!!

 Throughout April, the Clarke Field House/University Student Union is hosting Wellness Month. All faculty, staff and students are invited to attend a variety of free activity-based classes, seminars, social events and the annual Road to Wellness Fair.  The purpose of Wellness Month is to promote positive, well-being through participation in the different dimensions of Wellness among students, faculty, and staff on our campus

 

*WELL-AWARE FIT-BUCKS CHALLENGE

 

Do you need EXTRA Motivation to Participate in April & May’s Wellness Events?

Take our Fit-Bucks Challenge and earn free prizes, gift certificates, and other great items for being WELL!  The Wellness Month Fit-Bucks Challenge will begin Monday, April 14th and run through Monday, May 5th.  Participate and collect your hard-earned Fit-Bucks at Wellness Month events and attend the ASI Well-Aware Awards Drawing scheduled for Monday, May 5th at 6pm to cash in your bucks for prizes, gift certificates, and more!

*FREE FITNESS CLASSES

Mondays and Wednesdays in April, Fitness and Wellness Coordinator Lisa Dickinson will offer FREE opportunities to sample several different effective and popular workout classes in the Hunter Gymnasium. Monday sessions will begin at 5pm and Wednesday sessions will begin at 5:30pm.  Most classes are 30 minutes and will be followed by a 30-minute abdominal workout. This is an easy way to get in an hour of fitness before leaving campus!

These 30 minute classes will be a great way to release some stress, break a sweat, and get fit before the start of summer.  ABS classes will focus on form and technique, while teaching you a variety of exercises to apply in your own personal workouts.  You will find each free fitness class unique, fun, and challenging designed for all levels of participant.

 

 

*WELLNESS WORKSHOPS

Thursday, April 17th, 12pm to 1pm—Hunter Gymnasium

Meditation & Stress Relief Workshop, Dr. Fritz Kreisler & Dr. Kara Kornher

This workshop will aim to help students relax, and also learn to do so on their own.  It will combine gentle yoga with instruction in mindfulness meditation.  If possible, though it's not necessary, students should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing.  Participants are encouraged to bring their own yoga mat.   

 

                            Thursday, April 24th, 11:45pm to 12:45pm—Room 113

Spinal Health & Functional Fitness, Dr. James Pietrek

This workshop will discuss the importance of overall spinal health in the classroom, on the job, and On-The GO.  Attention will be given to understanding the importance of alignment, and conditions that may development due to sublaxation and improper alignment.  Techniques and tips for increasing spinal health and core strength will be discussed in an interactive lecture. 

 

 

 

*AMERICAN RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE

*ROAD TO WELLNESS FAIR*

The annual Road to Wellness Fair will bring a variety of vendors and community partners to the Clarke Field House Grand Salon, 11am to 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 24th. This is a good chance to learn about the health and wellness-related services available in the local area. Participants include Subway, MADD San Diego, Smoothie King, Pure Fitness, Bella Dora Spa & Salon and many more. 

 

*CINCO DE MAYO CELEBRATION

The University Student Union Advisory Board (USUAB) and the University Village Apartments will host a cultural celebration at “The Clarke” focused on the traditions and history of Cinco de Mayo.  Food will be served on the Clarke Outdoor Terrace.  All CSUSM students and Clarke Field House members are invited to attend and enjoy the celebration.
