The CHABSS Staff Spotlight was created to engender greater fellowship and camaraderie amongst the staff of the college. Each month the college will shine a light on a staff member, treat them to lunch and feature them on the college website. Brought to you by the CHABSS Dean's Office in collaboration with the Staff Development Workgroup.

What is your favorite book?  I don't have one favorite book. There are a lot of books that I enjoy reading. However, one book that has truly inspired me is Angela Davis: An Autobiography. Angela Davis has been an activist and writer promoting women's rights and racial justice while pursuing her career as a philosopher and teacher at the University of California, Santa Cruz and San Francisco State University. She achieved tenure at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

What are your hobbies?  Reading and traveling

Tell us about your family: I'm divorced and I have one son, who is a Lt. Col. in the Air Force. He is married to a lovely young woman who is an attorney. For now, she is a stay at home mom. I have two beautiful grandchildren, one girl, who is 7 years old and a boy who is 4. They are stationed in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I have one sister, who resides in Kansas City, Missouri and is the Regional Director for the United States Commission on Civil Rights. My parents are deceased.

What is your favorite thing about working at CSUSM?  I have more than one favorite thing about working at CSUSM. They are: interacting with staff, faculty and students, meeting new people, and being able to assist or help others.

What would you like to do when you retire?  Once I retire, I'm hoping I will be able to spend more time reading, traveling, spending more valuable time with my family and doing more volunteer work. I am one of those people that must stay busy. My son and daughter-in-law are requesting I move closer to them once I retire. We will see. It will depend on where they are stationed, I hate cold weather!

Who is the most famous person you ever met?  I am a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW and so I volunteer a lot of my time to this great organization. Because I am involved with this organization, I have had the opportunity to meet Veterans that were Prisoners of War from WWII and the Vietnam War. I consider these Veterans not only my heroes, but are also famous people. To hear their stories and how they survived are amazing!
